Well, after many months of speculation and rumors, it appears that Olympus will finally be announcing their first camera in the micro-4/3 format, the Olympus E-P1. This photo supposedly shows what the camera will look like (click on the photo for a larger version of the image). Apparently it will be offered in two different packages- the body with a 17mm 2.8 pancake lens or the body with a 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom lens. Perhaps it will be offered as a package with both lenese. As you can see in the photo, there appears to be an external viewfinder mounted on the hotshoe for the 17mm lens. But what about an external viewfinder for the zoom?
I have patiently been waiting for this camera as I believe it will make an excellent street shooter, if it can live up to all the hype from the past few months. All I really want in a top-flight digital street camera is for it to be small and lightweight, offer reasonably fast prime lenses such as the 17mm pancake, and for the camera to deliver quality files at higher ISO's. Is this that camera? We will know in the next few weeks as Olympus is set to announce the birth of "the digital Pen" in a couple of days and as the reviewers start to get their hands on some actual working models.
Personally, I think it is a gorgeous camera. I would also like to see a version in all black or black and siver.
These are exciting times for digital street shooters....

Hi Rick,
I'm curious too about this camera ... let's see also what the price will be ....
ciao
Well Nico, here in the US, Amazon has it listed as a pre-order - the body with the 17mm lens and external viewfinder for 899.00 and the body with the zoom for 799.00.
I can't wait until someone actually gets to shoot one of the things and we start getting some feedback on it.
